Actually Grill-able Veggie Burgers

Actually Grill-able Veggie Burgers

Every time I make veggie burgers at home I can’t actually grill them because the fall apart and get stuck and everything ends up being a mess.  Until now.  I’ve finally figured out a basic formula to make successfully grill-able veggie burgers made out of real food that you probably have on hand as we speak.

These burgers are flavorful, simple, and come together super fast.

I have found the trick is to make the burger mixture and let it sit in your refrigerator for at least a few hours- overnight is best.

Actually Grill-able Veggie Burgers (Makes 4 burgers)

1 cup steamed sweet potato

1 can of beans, rinsed- I used cannellini beans

1/3 cup of old fashioned oats

2 spring onions, white parts only- roughly chopped

1/4 cup of cilantro roughly chopped

1/4 tsp turmeric

1/4 tsp cumin

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

Method:

Using a food processor: put your sweet potato, bean and oats.  Pulse until everything is well combined but not completely smooth,  Next add the green onion, cilantro and spiced.  Pulse until just combined.  Put this mixture into the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, ideally over night.  When ready to grill, scoop the mixture using a heaped 1/3 cup measure and gently form into a 1″ thick dis with your hands.  You will be able to make 4 burgers.  Brush the grate of your preheated grill with oil, then place the burgers on.  Cook for about 5 minutes per side, serve on grilled sesame buns with your favorite toppings!
