Greek Village Salad (Horiatiki)

Greek Village Salad, or Horiakiti Salad, is a traditional salad with cucumber, tomato, bell pepper, feta cheese and kalamata olives and no lettuce! It is dressed with a simple red wine vinaigrette and plenty of oregano for a simple and flavorful dish.

Ingredients

For the Vinaigrette

  • 6 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 3 tablespoon Red Wine Vinegar
  • 1 Medium Clove of Garlic, grated on a rasp grater
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • ½ teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • Black Pepper to Taste

For the Greek Village Salad

  • 1 Pint Cherry Tomatoes, halved
  • 1 Medium Green Bell Pepper, cut into 1" chunks
  • ½ Large English Cucumber, thinly sliced
  • ½ Medium Red Onion, thinly sliced
  • ½ Cup Kalamata Olives, drained, pitted and sliced in half
  • 6 oz Feta Cheese, cut into 8 triangles see note!

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine extra virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, grated garlic, oregano, salt and pepper. Stir to combine.
    6 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 3 tablespoon Red Wine Vinegar, 1 Medium Clove of Garlic, grated on a rasp grater, 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano, Black Pepper to Taste, ½ teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • Add the halved cherry tomatoes, chopped bell pepper, sliced cucumber and red onion and the halved kalamata olives. Toss everything together really well.
    1 Pint Cherry Tomatoes, halved, 1 Medium Green Bell Pepper, cut into 1" chunks, ½ Large English Cucumber, thinly sliced, ½ Medium Red Onion, thinly sliced, ½ Cup Kalamata Olives, drained, pitted and sliced in half
  • Serve the salad onto plates and top each serving with 2 big pieces of feta cheese. Enjoy!
    6 oz Feta Cheese, cut into 8 triangles

Notes

Grab a feta cheese that comes in a solid block, not crumbles. That way you can top each salad with a big chunk of cheese.
