Ingredients

Whole Wheat Flour: Traditionally, Irish Brown Bread requires a coarsely ground Irish wholemeal flour, but it is hard to get in the United States, so I adapted the recipe to use regular whole wheat flour. One of the differences between Brown Bread and my Vegan Irish Soda Bread recipe is the inclusion of whole wheat flour. It adds heartiness, a warm flavor, and a delightful texture to this loaf.
All-Purpose Flour: All-purpose flour keeps this bread tender and light.
Baking Powder and Baking Soda: One of the reasons this bread is so fast is that it is leavened with baking powder and baking soda instead of yeast!
Molasses: Molasses adds a rich, warm sweetness to the bread that is not overpowering. Be sure to use baking molasses, not blackstrap molasses.
Non-Dairy Milk: I used oat milk, but any non-dairy milk will work.
Rolled Oats: Rolled oats add a nice crunch to the crust of this bread.
Instructions

Step 1. In a medium bowl, combine non-dairy milk, melted non-dairy butter, molasses, sugar, and vinegar.
Mix until well combined.

Step 2. In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Stir to distribute.

Step 3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, and mix with a spatula until a sticky dough forms.

Step 4. Scrape the batter into a prepared 8 ½ x 4 ½ inch loaf pan and sprinkle the top of the bread with rolled oats.
Bake the bread in a 400*F oven for 43-47 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
