    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • This recipe only requires 5 minutes and 6 ingredients to make!
    • And its vegan and gluten-free, so anyone can enjoy it.
    • These overnight oats are healthy and delicious!
    • You can prepare a few containers at one time to have breakfast done for the week!
    • And this Matcha Overnight Oats recipe tastes like eating a matcha latte!

    What Is Matcha?

Matcha powder is finely ground green tea leaves. And since its powder, matcha is typically whisked directly into water or milk rather than steeped like other types of green tea. And its great for baking!

I love to mix matcha powder into cakes cookies like my Vegan Matcha White Chocolate Chip Cookies and Vegan Matcha Cake.

When buying matcha powder, be sure to get 100% matcha powder and not matcha latte mix!

    Ingredient Notes

Ingredients needed to make this recipe on a marble board.

Old Fashioned Rolled Oats: I like old-fashioned rolled oats, because they keep some of their texture. But, you can also use quick oats!

Non-Dairy Milk: I like oat milk, but soy milk, almond milk or coconut milk will all work!

Chia Seeds: I love chia seeds in my overnight oats. But if you don't like chia seeds, you can use ground flax instead.

Maple Syrup: Maple syrup for a hint of sweetness. And you can adjust this according to your preference.

Matcha Powder: They wouldn't be matcha overnight oats without matcha powder! Be sure to get 100% ceremonial grade matcha powder like you would use for a Vanilla Matcha Latte.

Vanilla Extract: I like to add a little vanilla for background flavor.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

Matcha powder mixed with hot water in a glass jar.

Step 1. In a jar or other container with a tight-fitting lid, combine the matcha powder and hot water. Place the lid onto the container and shake vigorously for about a minute.

Chia seeds and oats added into the overnight oat liquid ingredients in a glass jar.

Step 2. Then, add the non-dairy milk, maple syrup, vanilla, rolled oats and chia seeds.

Step 3. Place the lid onto the jar and shake for about 10 seconds, until everything is well mixed. Then, pop the jar into the refrigerator overnight.

Step 4. In the morning, the Matcha Overnight Oats will have soaked up all the liquid. Top them with your desired toppings and eat!

What to Top the Oats With

    • Any fruit like blackberries, strawberries or mango.
    • A dollop of non-dairy yogurt
    • Chopped almonds, walnuts or cashews.
    • Hempseeds or pepitas
    • Peanut butter or some Homemade Cashew Butter.
    • Or even a handful of chocolate chips!

    Recipe FAQs

How should I store these Matcha Overnight Oats?

You can meal prep up to 3 recipes of these oats at a time and keep them in your refrigerator for 3 days!

Do overnight oats have to be in a jar?

No! You can prepare them in any container that has a tight-fitting lid.

What is the best milk for overnight oats?

My favorite is oat milk, but soy milk, almond milk and coconut milk are all delicious!

What kind of oats are used for overnight oats?

Old-fashioned rolled oats are best because they soften without losing all their texture. But, quick oats also work. I don't recommend steel-cut or instant oats!

    Expert Recipe Tips

If you have a hand-held frother or a matcha whisk, you can use that instead of shaking the matcha with hot water in step one!

Add the chia seeds right before you are ready to shake the oats together. Chia seeds are prone to clumping together.
