    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • This cookie recipe is simple to make, so it's perfect for beginner bakers!
    • They have a crisp edge and super chewy interior.
    • These Orange Cardamom Cookies are completely vegan, dairy-free and eggless, so anyone can enjoy them.
    • And this recipe uses fresh orange juice and zest for flavor. No special extracts are required.
    • And most importantly, these cookies are absolutely delicious!

    Ingredients

Ingredients for making this recipe in small bowls on a marble surface.

Orange Zest and Juice: When I make orange recipes like my Vegan Orange Olive Oil Cake or Vegan Cranberry Orange Scones, I never use orange extract! Fresh orange zest and juice is super flavorful and is all you need. Be sure to zest the whole orange before juicing it.

Ground Cardamom: Cardamom adds a delightful warm and floral flavor the the cookies and it pairs so well with orange. If you love it too, try my Vegan Orange Cardamom Loaf Cake!

Vegan Butter: I used Country Crock Plant Butter Sticks. They are easy to find and taste great!

    Instructions

Butter, sugar and orange zest creamed together in a large mixing bowl.

Step 1. In a large bowl using a hand mixer, or in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream non-dairy butter, sugar and orange zest until well combined and fluffy.

Then, add non-dairy milk and vanilla and mix on low to combine.

Cookie dough mixed together in a large mixing bowl with a rubber spatula inside.

Step 2. Now, add the flour, cardamom, baking soda and salt and mix on low to form the cookie dough.

Cookie dough balls on a parchment lined baking sheet.

Step 3. Use a 3-tablespoon cookie scoop to scoop cookie dough balls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving at least 2 ยฝ inches of space between each cookie.

Bake in a 350* F oven for about 12 minutes, or until the cookies are just barely golden around the edges.

Allow the Orange Cardamom Cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Orange glaze in a bowl on a wooden surface.

Step 4. Once the cookies are cool, make the orange glaze. In a medium bowl, combine powdered sugar, orange juice and orange zest. Whisk until the glaze is completely smooth.

Finally, use a spoon to drizzle the orange glaze over the cookies. Allow the glaze to set for 30 minutes, then serve!

    Recipe FAQs

How should I store these Orange Cardamom Cookies?

To store, place the cookies into an airtight container and store at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Or store in the freezer for up to a week.

Does orange pair well with cardamom?

Yes! Cardamom pairs well with all citrus and most other fruit, but my favorite combination is orange and cardamom.

    What does cardamom taste like?

Cardamom has a floral flavor and mild herbal flavor that is almost like pine.

    Expert Recipe Tips

To glaze the Orange Cardamom Cookies, keep them on the wire cooling rack, but place a baking sheet underneath to catch any dripping glaze.

Se sure to zest the orange before you juice it! And if you want a recipe that uses whole orange slices, make my Orange Upside Down Cake.

For evenly sized, round cookies, use a cookie scoop.
