    I love to make flavorful simple syrup recipes to keep in my refrigerator to add to lattes, cocktails, or mocktails! You can flavor syrup with just about anything. I love to make Strawberry Simple Syrup using fresh berries, or Lavender Simple Syrup using lavender flowers or Vegan Chocolate Syrup using rich and intense cocoa powder.

    And today, I am sharing a quick and easy Brown Sugar Simple Syrup recipe. This recipe only requires 3 ingredients and about 10 minutes to make. And you end up with a rich and delicious syrup that is incredible in cocktails, mocktails and coffee. So, let's make it!

    Ingredient Notes

    Brown Sugar: I like to use light brown sugar for this recipe. Don't have any on hand? Here is how to make homemade brown sugar!

    Cinnamon Stick: A cinnamon stick lends a subtle spice flavor. But you can leave it out if you don't have one or if you want the flavor to be just brown sugar.

    Vanilla Extract: A little vanilla complements the brown sugar flavor in this simple syrup and amps the warm flavor up.

    Instructions

    Ingredients in a saucepan.

    Step 1. In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, water and a cinnamon stick.

    Stir, then place the mixture over medium heat and bring to a boil.

    Step 2. Allow the mixture to boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat and add vanilla extract. The sugar should be completely dissolved.

    Pour the syrup into a heat-safe container and store in the refrigerator or allow it to cool slightly and use it immediately.

    Uses

    • Use the syrup to soak a layer cake
    • Or in a coffee drink or a latte
    • Use it in a cocktail like my Bourbon Apple Cider Cocktail or Maple Old Fashioned in place of maple syrup.

    How should I store it?

    Pour the syrup into a heat-safe airtight container and store in the refrigerator.

    How long will brown sugar simple syrup last?

    Simple syrup will last 2-3 weeks in the refrigerator.

    Do you have to boil simple syrup?

    Yes. Simple syrup needs to come to a boil so all of the sugar can dissolve.

    Expert Recipe Tips

    For storage, keep the cinnamon stick in the Brown Sugar Simple Syrup so it can continue infusing as it sits in your refrigerator.

    After 1 minute of boiling, the brown sugar should be completely dissolved. If there are sugar granules at the bottom of the saucepan, continue boiling for up to another minute until they are dissolved.

    • 1 1 Quart Saucepan
    • 1 Spoon
    • Measuring Cups and Spoons

    Ingredients
      

    • 1 Cup Light Brown Sugar, tightly packed
    • 1 Cup Water
    • 1 Large Cinnamon Stick
    • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

    Instructions
     

    • In a small saucepan, combine light brown sugar, water and a cinnamon stick. Stir to combine, then place the saucepan over medium heat.

    • Bring the mixture to a boil, then allow it to boil for 1 minute to allow time for all of the sugar to dissolve. See note! Remove from heat, then add vanilla extract.
    • Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then pour it into a heat-safe container and use immediately or store in the refrigerator for about 2 weeks.
      1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

    Notes

    Store the syrup with the cinnamon stick in it so the cinnamon can continue infusing!
