Ingredients

Tequila Blanco: I always have a tequila blanco around to make Pineapple Jalapeño Margaritas. Lately, I have been using Mijenta, and I love it. But use your favorite. I don't recommend a reposado or añejo tequila for this recipe.
Fresh Orange and Lime Juice: Be sure to use freshly squeezed juice for this recipe! It makes a huge difference.
Agave Nectar: I always have agave in my cabinet for making cocktails. If you don't feel free to use simple syrup instead.
Fresh Mint: Fresh mint adds a delicious herbaceous flavor to this Tequila Smash cocktail.
Club Soda: Feel free to use club soda, seltzer, or sparkling water. They are almost the same and can be used interchangeably in this cocktail.
Instructions

Step 1. In a cocktail shaker, combine lime juice, orange juice, agave nectar, and mint leaves.
Muddle the mint leaves using a muddler or a wooden spoon until they are well bruised.

Step 2. Add plenty of ice and tequila blanco to the shaker, then place the lid on tightly and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
Strain the mixture into a glass that is filled with fresh ice and top with club soda.
Gently stir, then garnish the Tequila Smash with a sprig of mint and a lime wedge, and serve!
Recipe FAQs
A "smash", when in reference to a cocktail, means that fruit or herbs have been smashed with a muddler.
Club soda has minerals added to it, while seltzer and sparkling water do not. It is not a meaningful difference, though, so they can be used interchangeably.
Expert Recipe Tips
I like to squeeze citrus into small containers and measure from there instead of calling for muddling a lime or orange wedge because each piece of fruit has a different amount of juice.
So while this may seem like an extra step, it gives you a more consistent cocktail.
