    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • This Skinny Spicy Margarita recipe is super simple and only requires 5 ingredients!
    • You can adjust the amount of jalapeño to suit your spice level preference.
    • This is the perfect margarita recipe. It's light, refreshing and full of fresh lime.
    • They are easy to make for just one or two people, or for a crowd!
    • And most importantly, they are absolutely delicious.

    Ingredient Notes

Ingredients for this recipe on a marble surface.

Tequila Blanco: Use whatever tequila blanco you like! I used Mijenta Blanco.

Jalapeño: The spice comes from jalapeño in this Spicy Skinny Margarita. You can use more or less than the recipe calls for to suit your spice preference!

Cointreau: Cointreau is a brand of triple sec which is orange liqueur. While you can use any triple sec, using Cointreau makes a big taste difference. I know a bottle is expensive, but it will last for years!

Fresh Lime Juice: Use freshly squeezed lime juice, please! I love to add like juice to cocktails and mocktails like my Pineapple Mojito Mocktail and French Gimlet. You will need approximately the juice of 1 whole lime per margarita.

Seltzer Water: I love a little fizz in my cocktails and mocktails like my Blueberry Lavender Mocktail. It makes them super light and refreshing!

    Step-by-Step Instructions

Fresh jalapeño muddled in the bottom of a cocktail shaker.

Step 1. Add the jalapeño slices into a cocktail shaker and use a muddler or a wooden spoon to break them up to release their flavor and heat.

Step 2. Fill the shaker with ice, then add the tequila, lime juice, cointreau and agave. Place the lid on and shake for 20 seconds. Then, pour the cocktail into a glass and top with seltzer and serve your skinny spicy margarita!

    Recipe FAQs

Does a skinny margarita have less alcohol?

No. A skinny margarita has the same amount of alcohol, but fewer calories than a margarita that is made with sour mix.

What's the difference between a skinny margarita and a regular margarita?

The main difference is that a skinny margarita has less sugar and fewer calories. Some margaritas use a sour mix which is really high in sugar. A skinny margarita uses fresh ingredients and just a little sweetener.

    Expert Recipe Tips

Muddle the jalapeño slices first to release their juice and heat! If you don't have a muddler, no worries! A wooden spoon will do the job.

If you are sensitive to spice, start with just 1 slice of jalapeño in your Skinny Spicy Margarita.
