  • It is great to drizzle on a salad, spread on a sandwich, or dip vegetables into it.

What is Tahini

Tahini is a paste made of ground sesame seeds. Think peanut butter, but sesame seeds instead of peanuts!

It is commonly used in Middle Eastern cuisine, combined with lemon juice and garlic to make a delicious, creamy sauce!

I love to use it to make creamy sauces for recipes like Tahini Pasta or Chickpea Egg Salad!

Ingredients

Ingredients for this recipe in small bowls on a marble surface.

Tahini: Be sure to grab a super smooth and drippy tahini. My favorite brands are Sesame King and Krinos.

Maple Syrup: Use pure maple syrup! No pancake syrup.

Apple Cider Vinegar: I love apple cider vinegar for this Maple Tahini Dressing, but you can also use lemon juice.

Garlic: Fresh garlic adds tons of bold flavor! Just be sure to grate it on a rasp grater.

Instructions

Ingredients in a medium bowl on a wooden surface.

Step 1. In a medium bowl, combine tahini, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, dijon mustard, grated garlic, salt and pepper.

Then, stir with a spoon until combined. The mixture will look very thick!

Dressing mixed together in a white bowl on a wooden surface.

Step 2. Add water, a tablespoon at a time, stirring well between each addition. The Maple Tahini Dressing will become creamy and smooth.

Use as desired!

Recipe FAQs

How should I store this Maple Tahini Dressing?

Transfer the dressing to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

What is a good substitute for maple syrup in dressing?

If you don't have maple syrup, use agave nectar!

How long does tahini last once it is opened?

Tahini will keep in your cupboard for up to a year, just like peanut butter.

Expert Recipe Tips

When you mix the tahini with apple cider vinegar and maple syrup in the first step, the mixture will be really thick. It will loosen up and lighten in color as the water is added.

The dressing thickens as it sits in the refrigerator, so you may need to stir in an additional teaspoon or two of water to loosen it up.
