Bananas add so much moisture and flavor to baked goods, and I love baking with them! And it's a good thing I love baking with them because I end up with overripe bananas more than I'd like to tell you. But that just means I can whip up a batch of my Vegan Banana Cake, or Vegan Double Chocolate Banana Muffins, or my Vegan Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies whenever I like.

And today, we're adding to the list of possibilities for overripe bananas with this Vegan Banana Bread recipe. This is the best banana bread- it's tender and moist and is spiced with cinnamon. And it is so easy to make!

    • This Banana Bread recipe is dairy-free, contains no egg and is completely vegan, so anyone can enjoy it!

    • And most importantly, it's absolutely delicious!

    Ingredient Notes

Ingredients for making this recipe in small bowls on a linen cloth.

Extra Ripe Bananas: Do not use regular ripe bananas for this recipe. It will not be sweet enough. They need to be overripe! You will need about 3 large bananas. Mine were small, so I needed almost 4.

Canola Oil: Canola oil adds moisture to the loaf. If you don't have canola oil, any neutral oil will work, like avocado oil or grapeseed oil. Do not use coconut oil!

Non-Dairy Milk: I used oat milk, but almond milk or soy milk will also work!

Brown Sugar: Brown sugar adds a warm background flavor to this recipe.

    Variations

If you like walnuts, half of a cup of them into the batter right at the end!

If you want Vegan Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, add half of a cup of mini chocolate chips to the batter.

    Instructions

Wet ingredients in a large mixing bowl on a wooden surface.

Step 1. First, combine the mashed banana, brown sugar, canola oil, non-dairy milk and vanilla in a large mixing bowl. Whisk well to combine.

Step 2. Then, add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Whisk to form the batter.

It will look lumpy and that is okay!

Step 4. Bake the loaf in a 350* oven for 65-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before slicing and serving.

    Recipe FAQs

How should I store this vegan banana bread?

To store, wrap the banana bread with plastic wrap, or place it into an airtight container and keep it at room temperature for up to 4 days.
To freeze, slice the loaf and transfer it to a freezer bag or airtight container and freeze for up to a month.

Can I use yellow bananas for banana bread?

No! The bananas should be at least half brown.
A lot of the sweetness and moisture comes from the overripe bananas. If you use bananas that are just yellow, your banana bread might come out dry.

    Expert Recipe Tips

Use a toothpick to test this Vegan Banana Bread for doneness because it will begin to brown before the center of the loaf is done.

To do this, stick a toothpick into the center of the loaf, then remove it. If the toothpick has batter on it, the loaf is not done. If the toothpick comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs attached, the loaf is ready to come out of the oven!
