This Vegan Oat Milk Hot Chocolate recipe only requires 5 ingredients and 5 minutes to make! It's easy, creamy and super chocolaty- the perfect hot cocoa to make on a chilly day.
I love chocolate. Which I think all of my readers know by now. To me, there is nothing better than a slice of Vegan Chocolate Cake or a Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie that is packed to the brim with chocolate chips.
But, sometimes I don't have time to bake a chocolate treat. And thats where this homemade Vegan Oat Milk Hot Chocolate comes in. This is a variation of a recipe I always made with my mom with my mom. And I'm pretty sure my mom grew up making it with her mom. Its simple, quick, creamy and absolutely delicious. And best of all, it's done in 5 minutes!

- It's the perfect chocolate recipe if you have no time to bake something.

Ingredients
Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: Any cocoa powder will work here- either Dutch-processed or natural. But, my favorite is Ghirardelli.
Granulated Sugar: Regular old granulated sugar to sweeten things up.
Salt: A pinch of salt balances everything and brings the chocolate flavor out.
Vanilla Extract: The vanilla is optional, but I like to add it.
Oat Milk: Oat milk is super creamy which makes it perfect for vegan hot chocolate or any latte like an Iced Lavender Matcha Latte or a Lavender Oat Milk Latte. I used Chobani Unsweetened Oat Milk. But you can use any non-dairy milk, from almond milk, to soy milk or even coconut milk.
Instructions
Step 1. In a small sauce pan over medium heat, combine the sugar, cocoa powder, water and a pinch of salt.
Cook, stirring constantly until the mixture comes to a full boil.
Step 2. Add the oat milk and vanilla and stir.
Once the mixture is hot, it's done! Pour it into mugs and top with vegan whipped cream or marshmallows and serve.
Get Creative with Toppings
It is crucial to top your mug of Vegan Oat Milk Hot Chocolate with plenty of your favorite toppings. Here are my top recommendations:
- Vegan Whipped Cream
- Crushed Candy Cane
- Cinnamon or Pumpkin Pie Spice
- Dandies Vegan Marshmallows
- Shaved Chocolate
Expert Recipe Tips
Make sure to allow the chocolate and sugar mixture to come to a full boil in the first step. This will ensure the sugar completely dissolves and that any cocoa powder clumps dissolve.
